Race: Human, Chinese
Personality: Zhibo is primarily optimistic. He believes the world can regrow as it had on his family’s farm, new life is just waiting to be given a chance. He’s somewhat sheltered, living with only his traditional parents. He’s proud of his heritage and his culture, and enjoys traditional foods, practices, and prayers. At the same time he’s curious and adventurous. He travels to the decaying city and various trading posts to sell his family’s crops, to which he came back with an entirely different physique, much to his mama’s dismay.
Background: Zhibo is the an only child, remaining with his parents. The couple had immigrated before the crash. Determined to survive they headed into the wilds, where Zhibo was born. He grew up off the land, fishing and hunting. His mother taught him how to read the plants, how to pick the good from the bad, and which herb cured what ailment. They’ve managed to cultivate a farm, now brimming with life. As such Zhibo is healthy, and has managed to bring trade goods to barter for more colorful clothing and even a tattoo.
Name: Matthew Anthony Peterson
Verse: 2020 — Original
Personality: Matt is a creature of laziness. His nature is somewhat wise, but in turn he’d prefer to use his intelligence to work around a problem rather than fix it. In the end it probably takes more effort to avoid something than it does to face it head on.
Somewhere along the line he forwent justice and moral for personal gain. Though it wasn’t out of pure spite, rather, that he came to understand the “just and moral” were not actually such.
He’s easily defined as light-hearted, easy going and mellow. He’s confident in his choices. He walks a “live and let live” line, but then he also uses that to argue that there’s no sense getting his hands dirty for someone else’s mess.
In the end the concept of “laziness” is probably a trope that he plays up because he doesn’t want to be saddled with such a big responsibility.
Background: Matt was born into a women’s camp, the first founded after the crash in 2020. The industrialists promised dozens of women safety and equality within them. However, all it offered was thin veneer of order. Equality was out the door as quickly as it had come in, but the outside world was dangerous— wrought with thieves and bandits. In exchange for their protection the women were asked to bear children of the best soldiers for the industrialists army. With little options many agreed, and Matt was one of the sons born from that agreement.
While the girls were taught to stay behind and follow in their mother’s footsteps, rearing children and helping rebuild the human population, the boys were sent to another camp, taught the righteous path of the industrialist army and the woeful wrongs of the environmentalists. Many became loyal soldiers to the cause, but Matthew had nothing but questions.
It was those questions that first got him reprimanded at 14, imprisoned until he could learn to keep his place. Rather than fall into line he rebelled even further, eventually breaking free and escaping into the forest. He never spoke out about them, no matter how many twisted ideals that had been washed into the recruits minds. Instead he claims that he was just too bored and tired of the work.
He only recently was reunited with his life-long-friend. They had grown up together both in the camps and in the training facilities, they had even been placed on the lines. Guy viewed Matt’s rebellion as a betrayal, and Matt didn’t feel the need to correct him. However, Guy couldn’t bring himself to arrest his dear friend, and was quickly convinced to head into what thin remnants of woods remained.
Name: Byron Buford
Verse: Decadent whispers — Victorian original
Personality: Byron is a snooty, uppity, spoiled brat. His every whim is to be catered upon hand and foot, lest he succumb to a woeful display of guilting and shaming, complaining about how hard it is to navigate and what terrors he’s faced when he’s stumbled along blindly.
Whether its true or not is entirely up to debate, as he often feels quite helpless and vulnerable, but at the same time if he was given a hint of strict encouragement he would be able to be actively independent.
His whimpering is only surpassed by his level of sass, possessing a quick wit and a sharp tongue. When he does actually wish to be independent nothing will stop this strong willed teen.
Background: Byron was born blind, resulting in his mother taking extra care to ensure that he was never hindered by his disability. Though her intentions were good willed, it lead to Byron falling into the tricky cycle that crossed the line from privileged to spoiled.
As a child he quickly neglected his studies, arguing that it was too difficult without being able to read the words himself. Here and there he would become interested in a topic and demand to be taught about it, this quickly escalated into a passion for equestrian games. He became a skilled rider, using the saddle as a means of freedom and independence. Its also the only time that Byron seems any shade of happy with himself.
Name: Derick Andrews
Verse: 2020 — Original
Personality: Derick is a soft-hearted man, he tends to shy away from violent or aggressive situations. His peaceful, half-hearted attitude has landed him in more trouble than anything else, often trusting someone too much or falling into charitable acts that effectively harm himself, such as forgoing food for another to the point of suffering fainting spells.
His passive nature makes it difficult for him to maintain his role as heir to the environmentalist’s revolution— in which some cases of “the ends justify the means” may actually be merited.
Background: Derick was born in Connecticut, at the age of 7 when the crash occurred. He and his father escaped to the local military base, procuring supplies and retreating into the wilderness. It was there that they managed to make peace, finding harmony with nature while the technological advances of the century were ultimately what caused the destruction of the world.
His father viewed this cataclysmic event to be a second chance at doing things the right way. Technology had gotten too far and humanity was punished for it. Slowly he gained others to follow in his lead, which ultimately created the chasm between the “environmentalists” and the “industrialists” sparking a war between the factions.
Derick was then placed as heir to the revolution, but he is predominantly not a leader type, leading to conflict in his position of authority. Derick was finally placed on a mission to discover which rogue faction was pilfering their food supplies, he failed his mission when he couldn’t assassinate their leader; Rosa. Quickly he switched sides, following at Rosa’s heels and her more humanitarian ideals.
Name: Maccus — Macintosh Cybernetic Understanding System
Age: 4 years out of box
Verse: Modify — Original
Personality: Maccus operates under a certain set of principles, some fundamental rules of his programming that he can not deviate from. Certain things such as valuing human life over his own, to respond to given user-commands without question(unless they violate the harm protocol), and finally to seek self sufficiency to comply with the 4 Rs (repairs, reboots, recharge and recommended settings) after all other needs are met However, what remains in his programming is empty space for user settings to be applied.
His user-friendly interface allows him to respond to similar situations with previous given tasks. (The baby is crying, go and get diapers — next time the baby cries he will assume the same responsibility)… However he may seem somewhat overly-trusting and sincere, even too serious, as he processes the world around him in a strict binary fashion. Due to his last owner Maccus also becomes very concerned over small matters.
Background: Maccus’ previous owner was interested in modifying him and screwing with his programming. As such he entered in as many ineffective behaviors as he could, often changing his responses randomly just to “fuck with” him. Maccus, in turn, has a lowered processing speed as his information banks are primarily filled with trivial matters.
However after experiencing several glitches and crashes he was officially decommissioned and replaced with a newer model. He wound up in a junk-shop downtown, ready to be recycled and broken down into parts, it turned out he only needed a replacement or two, and was restored to working order.
Age: Dead? looks 24
Verse: Fancharacter — Bleach
Personality: Kind of a prankster, Arata would prefer to be laughing than anything else. He often got a kick out of bothering his Japanese peers when off base. Though he got in trouble for not taking things seriously enough, he often had many friends regardless. He gravitated towards the shier kids, trying to get them to open up and easily remembering small details about everyone he knew. Their favorite band, movie, if they slept on the left side of the bed… so on so forth.
After his youthful days died down he lived a moderately average life, staying close in contact with his old friends and family members, maintaining a routine religious practice.
In death some of this attitude had transferred over, though he’s still having a lot of trouble taking in the whole undeath situation, he still takes his job protecting others very seriously. If only he could get past that fatal flaw!
Background: Arata grew up on a military base in Japan, he grew up and maintained a steady job, until he died in a car crash and bled to death due to a laceration of a major artery. He awoke in the shinigami world, and even though he had a good level of reishi and showed great promise in his training, there was a problem that quickly became apparent upon his first mission. He would collapse at the sight of blood. This small deficit got him demoted down into “division 14”, the less spoken of division within the shinigami world.
Ironically his weapon, Enyo, is a rapier that transforms into a tendril-like-whip when released, and holds the aiblity to drain blood from an opponent.
* (This character is a work in progress)
Name: Lily Spurr
Verse: Quarantine — Original
Personality: Lily is a street-smart girl who dropped out of high-school early when she got kicked out of her home at 16. She found she did better on the streets than anywhere else, and quickly adapted to the urban-nomadic style of living.
It then goes to say that she’s learned how to be bold and brash with her emotions, fighting and kicking to get whatever she has. She looks out for number 1, but at the same time she’s fiercely loyal to those she bonds with. And she adheres strictly to an unwritten code. She operates as sort of a pack-mentality and regards herself as alpha.
Lily has a quick tongue and a cocky strut, she has no shame in cursing or yelling. She loves music! She has an old, broken ipod that she tries to charge when she gets the chance to listen to her playlist again.
Background: Lily was kicked out of her home when she was 16, for reasons she rarely discusses. She dropped out of high-school and chose life on the street for some time before the outbreak. In turn her experience gave her an upper hand as the city slowly declined into chaos. Now 19, she’s been surviving amongst the urban jungle’s ruins scavenging and fighting off infected. All of her previous companions have since died or disappeared.
Verse: 2020 — Post-apocalyptic
Personality: Cyrus is the head of the tactical division for the Tech’s side. His manipulative mastermind rarely falls flat, and he’ll gladly promise the world and stab you in the back the minute you turn around.
He largely subscribes to the idea of social-Darwinism, which often brings him to think of himself as highly ‘fit’, despite his genetic defect. He observes himself as superior to others, and devalues human life and ethics any chance he gets.
Without many of the social conventions remaining in the world, he’s highly influential with little repercussion. He has little to no emotional nor moral drives, and the only time he’ll act “good” is when its in favor of achieving an ulterior motive.
In turn, when his mental prowess fails to meet his agendas, he resorts largely to physical violence and weaponry, as he’s rather frail of body and could rarely defend himself if he wasn’t a good shot.
Background: Cyrus was born into the world shortly before the crash, he was 4 when 2020 came about and in turn his older brother was left to raise him. In his youth, as factions began to form, he became a real up-and-comer within the divisions. He rapidly gained understanding of basic techniques and sooner than later, he was an undefeated chess champion.
The world they lived in quickly became his plaything, enforcing twisted ideals and employing a mob-mentality to segregate the races and sexes. Soon women became no more than currency, a trade tool to encourage men to fight in order to ‘earn’ the rights to bear children. These horrid practices were primarily Cyrus’ design.
His twisted practices continued, finding a strange favor in his brother with little reciprocation of his empty infatuation. By no means did he ever feel love, rather, he sought power and control.
To this degree he still functions as a primary ‘leader’ a ‘revolutionist’ and a savior to his following, surely to bring the human race back to its feet.
Name: Eliou Cadeyrn
Age: Immortal, lost count.
Race: Blood Demon
Verse: Nameless City
Personality: Eliou is typically calm and collected. He’s often seen as quite charming, and weaver of words, and he’ll do anything to ascertain certain allies in his conquest. He’s a loyal servant of Ixhtulazeal, and much of his behavior can be linked back to a higher purpose for him.
Highly motivated and highly secretive. Its very difficult to get him to divulge anything that’s going on within his mind.
Background: Eliou grew up under the influence of Lord Ixhtulazeal, his father serving as one of the vessels, and dying under such a duty; as such Eliou views the position as one of the highest honor. He now serves under him, devout to purifying himself for such a task, or finding a perfect vessel. Whether the rest of his past is kept secret, or simply not there, is unknown.
Age: Late 20s
Race: Naga — Blue Banded Sea Krait (Ethnicity is Malaysian)
Vidura was first described as a perfectionist. Born from that word, he’s stuck with the insistent need to have everything in order. From socks to spoons, not a thing can be out of place— and he often returns several times to check and make absolute sure that he’s completed these tasks.
Stemming from that he can be fairly picky and in turn, quite grumpy. There’s not too many people that he gets along with, and those who do may not last for long.He has, however, found a happy balance with his lover; Colt. The two love to play role-play scenes, and Vid’s perfectionist nature leads him to act the role of whatever he’s dressed and prides himself in never breaking character.
Vidura was originally a “gun for hire”, though his weapon of choice was none other than the potent venom in his fangs. To kill a killer you have to hire another, better killer— that was where he and colt met. Unfortunately (or fortunately) Colt was immune to the venom, being already undead it had no effect on him. The two formed a somewhat paradoxical relationship, playing off one another’s strengths and faults, they found their perfect synchronization. Now the two killers for hire work together, much to the displeasure of the organization that first hired Colt.
